Combined, these terms describe what I believe to be the most satisfying moments of our existence. Utopia Tea was created to define a standard, offering the finest quality loose tea varieties aimed to excite the senses, indulge our pleasures and comfort the soul.

As a child, I spent several weekend afternoons sampling tea—a tradition my mother introduced to my sister and I. We learned about the health benefits, aromatic flavors and exotic ingredients of each. We also explored the cultural and geographical relationships established through tea trade centuries ago. Now, some years later, I am utilizing this knowledge to launch a tea and accessory line that will be sure to satisfy both experienced and virgin tea drinkers.

Our loose tea varieties will brew a more satisfying cup of tea than your average store bought selection. This is attributed to the size of the tealeaves, which are said to be the most important factor in capturing the flavor and nutrients of the selection. Tealeaves contain essential oils and organic chemicals (polyphenols) that help preserve the natural flavors. When tealeaves are broken up, the natural oils evaporate and dry up, leaving little to no room for full-bodied flavor. The longer the harvested tea is exposed to natural elements, the more dried and less flavorful the leaves become. Typical store bought tea bags have little, broken fragments (known as “tea dust” or “fannings”) of tealeaves that do not have the space to expand and unfurl as needed. Fannings are said to be the “bottom of the barrel”, and should be considered when looking to purchase premium quality tea.

I even work with Fair Trade Suppliers to support small business in towns and villages throughout the world. More importantly, I will be conscious and progressive in practicing sourcing methods that have a minimal impact on the planet and its resources.

In addition, I’m pushing our mission to educate communities about the wonderful physical benefits tea can have on the body (for adults and children alike). I want to inspire and motivate people to drink tea, and I take careful consideration in selecting our common and seasonal loose tea varieties.
