Oolong Formosa
The name speaks for itself, Formosa meaning "beautiful" tea. Our Oolong Formosa is semi-fermented with copper red leaves and have silver tips. The tea leaves offer hints of vanilla and citrus for a smooth and spicy taste. Oolong Formosa got its name from the Portuguese explorers that called the island, Formosa. Oolong Formosa contains a large amount of natural plant-derived antioxidant compounds called polyphenols that fight off cancer and a variety of diseases. Oolong tea leaves have been proven to protect the body, lower cholesterol, promote healthy blood vessel functionality, and strengthen the immune system. Small amounts of Vitamin C and K, potassium, and calcium have been found in Oolong tea leaves. Try this tea hot or over ice!
Oolong Formosa loose tea comes in a 4oz pouch. To order larger quantities or individual natural tea bags, check the white box.
- Water quality is essential when preparing the perfect cup of tea. Use bottled or filtered water for best results.
- Pour hot/boiled water (190-200 F) in your teacup or teapot and let it sit for 2 minutes then pour it out. The warming of the teacup or teapot will maintain the temperature creating the best tasting tea.
- Use one tablespoon of loose tea per cup of water or per 12 ounces.
- Pour boiled water over tea leaves and keep your teapot covered to maintain the heat. Infuse for 3-5 minutes. Over infusing will create a strong bitter taste.
- Add sugar, honey, or milk according to taste.
- Enjoy your tea one sip at a time!
- A stronger brew of iced tea is required due to the melting of the ice, therefore we suggest you double the amount of loose tea that you would typically use for hot tea, per cup. (i.e. if you use one tablespoon of loose tea for hot tea, use two tablespoons of loose tea for iced tea)
- Brew tea as directed. If you would prefer your iced tea to be sweetened, add rock sugar (for best results) while the tea is steeping, opposed to adding it at the end. This will enhance the taste of the iced tea and the sugar will easily dissolve in the hot water.
- After the hot tea is brewed, immediately pour it into a glass or cup filled completely with ice. The instant cooling will keep the scent and flavor of the tea intact.
- Add lemon, mint, or cinnamon sticks as desired. Enjoy!
- Bring one quart of water to a rolling boil.
- Remove the water from the heat and add 8-10 teaspoons of loose tea per quart (using a tea pot w/filter or tea bags will work just the same).
- Let this steep for 5-7 minutes or to your desired strength, then remove loose tea. If you would prefer your iced tea to be sweetened, add rock sugar (for best results) while the tea is steeping, opposed to adding it at the end. This will enhance the taste of the iced tea and the sugar will easily dissolve in the hot water.
- If you would like to serve immediately, pour over a glass or cup filled completely with ice. The instant cooling will keep the scent and flavor of the tea intact.
If not, add an additional quart of cold water and let chill in the refrigerator (minimum 2 hrs). - Add lemon, mint, or cinnamon sticks as desired. Enjoy!
